Battle of Tewkesbury Anniversary events

The Battle of Tewkesbury (4 May 1471) was one of the most decisive battles of the Wars of the Roses in England. King Edward IV and his forces loyal to the House of York completely defeated those of the rival House of Lancaster. The Lancastrian heir to the throne, Edward of Westminster, Prince of Wales, and many prominent Lancastrian nobles were killed during the battle or executed.

The Beaufort Family and the Wars of the Roses

The Beaufort family were loyal supporters of the House of Lancaster – no matter how bleak the situation became – and ultimately paid the price for it with the extinction of their male line. The talk explores how the elder Edmund Beaufort, duke of Somerset, was a victim of his own initial success, becoming a scapegoat for the failures of those around him, allowing his enemies the perfect opportunity to strike
