Conquest to Kingdom – The Bayeux Tapestry at Tewkesbury Abbey

From Conquest to Kingdom – The Bayeux Tapestry and Norman Heritage Trail at Tewkesbury Abbey

Set within one of Britain's finest surviving Norman buildings, From Conquest to Kingdom invites visitors to experience the story of 1066 inside the very world it created. Developed in partnership with the British Museum as part of Bayeux Around Britain, supported by WorldQuant, this flagship exhibition features a full-scale 70-metre printed reproduction of the Bayeux Tapestry alongside Tewkesbury Abbey’s own Norman Heritage, bringing to life over 80 years of formative English history beneath Europe’s largest Romanesque tower.

Moving beyond the Battle of Hastings into the vibrant Norman kingdom that followed, visitors will discover the powerful figures who built a nation, from Queen Matilda to local patrons like Robert Fitzhamon. Explore this fascinating period of history through its faith and power, architecture, craftsmanship and everyday life, all brought vividly to life within one of Britain's finest surviving Norman buildings.
